I wondered if its possible to go for survivor after you died.
There is still the title, in my hero window, waiting to be filled up.. maybe the progress just resets after a death and you have to start all over?

i wanted to go get the title with my warrior, created from first day of guildwars(where no titles could be achieved yet)!

would be great if someone knows anything concrete about this question.

Nope - progress does not reset after a death.

The title bar will remain but will stay frozen at the amount of experience you had when you died. It will not advance period.

The only exceptions are those times when a "death" does not count as a death. For instance, if you died during the Halloween visit the mad king, that is not counted as a death. The death in the initial tutorial at Shing Jea also does not count.

Basically, if you type /deaths and get any number other than 0 your progress on your title is frozen and there is no way to change that.

i find this just unfair for players that want the survivor title on their main charackter(often the first charackter created "back in the days")..

sure, when you die it shall reset the whole progress. but not make it impossible to get it at all

btw, how can you be sure that the title cannot be achieved after /deaths shows numbers...did anyone try catching up their XP without dying?

umm..no you cant...hence the title of "survivor" If youve already acheived R1 then you stay as r1. if you havent reached it yet, then your SOL

Once a character had died, its not a survivor anymore.

Why is that unfair? When u die IRL u stop breathing, and i never heard of anyone being send back at the gates of heaven on account of it being "unfair".

Not impossible, if you die: delete character and remake it. I know ppl that started over half a dozen times.... (and stil didnt make it.)

You didn't survive, you died - hence why you can't complete the title.

Hmm, I guess this means my character in presearing Ascalon with ~125,000 deaths and counting will never be able to get Legendary Survivor.

If your char is in pre searing with that many deaths i`ll guess ur going for the pre sear title Legendary Defender of Ascalon .
If so then hate to say but its impossible to have both that and survivor as you have to death level foes in pre sear to get that title.
As others have said - survivor means you survive till rank 3 , its meant to be a challange and hard - dying then restarting it is a bit pointless and defeats the object.
If i were you id check guildwars wiki ( /wiki survivor within gw ) on survivor title as it explains all about it and ways to achieve it

it's a tough truth, I decided my very first char was going to collect titles for gwam after i had over 1000 deaths, its just means i got 1 less title to get. I agree it is irritating the time of my first death i hadn't even heard of titles but it can't be helped. Best thing to do is try on another char but don't bother trying to make sure you get it, chances are you will be there for a long time.

I had a mesmer get r2 survivor then the game glitched and said i had died when i never did, after that i've not bothered plenty of titles out there to get

Why would you bring up the issue of realism in a game that deals with magic and monsters -.-

I dont really think i need to chime in on the OPs question considering more than enough people have answered it. However, i still think the idea for having to gain the exp in between deaths is a good solution for characters with deaths. But that discussion is for a different section :P

actually, it used to be possible to get legendary survivor and defender title on the same character. Sadly Aney nerfed it and only the few (few as in more than few im just using it as a generalization) people who did it got it done.
